Cashwalk Review — Can You Really Get Paid to Walk?

Cashwalk Review — Can You Really Get Paid to Walk?

For the past month and a half, I've been using an app called Cashwalk, which pays you "coins" for walking. When you collect enough coins, you can redeem them for gift cards from places like Amazon, Walmart, and Starbucks. An app like this is nice for motivating people to walk more while monetizing the experience. However, I do wonder if an app like this actually works.

After some testing, here is my review. I will explain how Cashwalk works and whether you really can get paid to walk.

Ways to Get Paid

There are a few ways to earn coins.

Walk and Earn

All you need to do to get started is to install the app and create an account. You will have to give the app some permissions so that it can run in the background and track your steps. After that, just walk while keeping your phone on you. You earn 1 coin for every 100 steps and you can earn a maximum of 200 coins in a day. That means you'll get paid to walk for a maximum of 20000 steps.

The coins are stored in a chest, which you need to tap to collect the coins. Clicking that chest a few times triggers an ad in the form of a popup. The ad is not intrusive as you can close it almost right away and resume collecting coins.

Open Lucky Boxes for Coins

Lucky boxes are a feature where you earn a random amount of coins for watching ads. Each lucky box requires you to watch two ads, which takes an average of up to 30 seconds to finish. Every day, you will get to open a lucky box for free but you can unlock more lucky boxes for every 1000 steps you take. You can open up to 7 lucky boxes per day.

Lucky boxes typically only give a few coins. In those cases, you have the chance to double your winnings by watching another couple of ads. There is also a slim chance that you can earn a lot from a box. The most I've earned was 100 coins but some people have gotten a lot more than that. It is very rare, but it is possible.

Play Games and Complete Tasks

Cashwalk pays you to play games. On their "Play" page, you can browse through the games available. To earn coins for playing games, you will need to download the game and complete its associated challenges. Challenges can include playing for a certain amount of time or clearing a certain number of levels.

The rewards are given a few moments after completing the achievement, but it can take up to 48 hours sometimes.

Do Challenges and Win Prizes

Cashwalk has challenges that you can take part in and rules will differ with each one. To participate in the challenge, join it by commenting that you're in. Then start doing the challenge. You will have to provide proof that you are doing the challenge and make posts. At the end of the challenge, people who have completed them will receive a prize.

I personally haven't participated in these challenges, but they can be worth looking into if you're interested in motivating yourself even further.

How Much Can You Earn and How Long Will It Take?

The amount of coins you can earn will depend on the amount of effort you put in and which gift card you want. As far as I know, there isn't an overall maximum number of coins you can earn in a single day, so you can do as much or as little as you want.

Here are three examples of users and what they earn based on their activities. For comparative purposes, they all have the goal of getting a $5 Amazon.ca gift card, which currently costs 2250 coins to redeem.

Example 1: Moderate User

  • Walk 5000 steps: 50 coins
  • Open 5 lucky boxes and earn 5 coins each. They don't double their earnings: 5 x 5 = 25 coins.
  • Play a game and complete two tasks worth 40 coins each: 80 coins.
  • Total coins earned per day: 155 coins

Days needed to redeem card: About 14.51 days

Example 2: Heavy User

  • Walk 10000 steps: 100 coins
  • Open 7 boxes and earn 5 coins each. They also double their earnings by watching more ads: 70 coins
  • Play games and complete 5 tasks worth 40 coins each: 200 coins
  • Total coins earned per day: 370 coins

Days needed to redeem Amazon.ca gift card: About 6.08 days

Example 3: Occasional User

  • Walk 2000 steps: 20 coins
  • Only open the free lucky box and receive 5 coins. They don't double the earnings for it: 5 coins
  • Don't play any games: 0 coins
  • Total coins earned per day: 25 coins

Days needed to redeem Amazon.ca gift card: 90 days

Of course, the number of coins you earn will not always be the same. You will walk less on some days than others, lucky boxes may or may not always be in your favor, and game tasks pay at different rates.

That being said, those examples should show that you can earn as much or as little as you want.

Redeeming Prizes

After collecting enough coins, you can cash them in to redeem gift cards. The catalog of gift cards available is alright in the US (Around 25 stores), but quite limited in Canada (Less than 10).

Here's a sample of stores that you can redeem a gift card for:

  • Amazon
  • Walmart
  • Starbucks
  • Home Depot (Canada only)
  • Google Play (US only)
  • Nike (US only)
  • Nintendo (US only)

When you're ready to redeem a card, select the card you want and begin the redemption process. You will then get a link to a page where you can redeem the card.

To test if the app works, I've redeemed the $5 Amazon gift card. The redemption process was straightforward. I received a link and a code and it did work. I can confirm that Cashwalk does work.

Conclusion

While Cashwalk doesn't pay you in actual money to walk, it does pay you in coins for redeeming gift cards and I can confirm that it does work. It might take a while, but depending on how much you walk and how much of the other activities you do, you can speed up your progress and reach your goals quickly.

The selection of gift cards available is adequate for the United States but limited in Canada. However, I didn't find that to really be an issue as I just wanted Amazon gift cards. Amazon and Walmart sell a variety of products, so I found their gift cards to be more useful than something like a Starbucks gift card, which can only be used to purchase food and drinks from their stores.

Overall, Cashwalk is a decent app for obtaining gift cards. It's mostly passive and how much you earn depends on the amount of effort you put in. Therefore, this is a good app to consider using for getting paid to walk.
